    Pulmonary Embolism Treatment

A blood clot that blocks blood flow to the lungs, requiring urgent attention.

    Understanding Pulmonary Embolism

A pulmonary embolism happens when a blood clot — usually from a vein deep in the leg — travels to the lungs and blocks an artery, cutting off blood flow and lowering oxygen levels. It is a medical emergency: around one in three people with a pulmonary embolism die before it is diagnosed, so prompt recognition matters — yet with timely treatment it is seldom fatal.

Alongside the urgent hospital care a pulmonary embolism requires, Crest Natural Health Centre offers homeopathic support for recovery and for reducing the risk of future clots.

    Common Symptoms

Sudden shortness of breath, at rest or on activity
Sharp chest pain that may spread to the shoulder, arm, neck, or jaw
    Cough, sometimes with blood-streaked mucus
    Rapid heartbeat
    Pale, clammy, or bluish skin
    Light-headedness or fainting

    Causes & Triggers

Long periods of immobility — after surgery, hospital stays, or long journeys — allow clots to form.
Injury to blood vessels from surgery, fractures, or accidents raises the risk.
Conditions that make the blood clot more easily, including cancer, hormone therapy, and the contraceptive pill, are important contributors.
Smoking, obesity, and pregnancy or the weeks after childbirth also increase the risk.

    Risks of Delaying Care

A large embolism can stop the heart, causing cardiac arrest.
Part of the lung tissue can die from lack of blood (pulmonary infarction).
It can trigger abnormal heart rhythms and, over time, raised pressure in the lung arteries (pulmonary hypertension).
